Hi, I’m Sahera and I write about bands. Or I used to, something that started for me ten years ago in 2016. Writing this bio feels like a bit of a love letter to myself, quite nostalgic and personal which is a bit scary to share with strangers on the internet, but here we go.
So let’s go back a decade ago – I was 16, doing my A levels at school, posting indie stuff on Insta daily and working part time with all my cash going on records, gig tickets and band merch. My proper love for music started when AM was released, Arctic Monkeys were just always *that* band for me. So I remember staying up all night writing a longggg post about the Arctic Monkeys debut album which was about to turn 10 years old, if you scroll back on here far enough you’ll find it. That notes app brain dump evolved into an article, which became a blog post, which then turned into Indie Underground. That then evolved into my passion project zine Some Might Say, which then became an event series, eventually landing me my first role in the music biz. And now we’re out here running events and vibes round Brick Lane (special mention to Werkhaus). The bands along that way that made such a special time in my life what it was were artists like False Heads, JW Paris, Strange Bones, Kid Kapichi, The Blinders, Calva Louise, BlackWaters, The Scruff, Avalanche Party, The Surrenders – truly an endless list.
I kick started a career in events a few years later, and life started to get in the way of writing a bit. Moving to London, building a career for myself in sales & events, travelling, having my heart broken, all the crazy things life throws at you in your 20s. And now I’m a bit more settled, life is nice and I enjoy the calmness, but I also miss the chaos, the gigs, the madness. I’ve had this creative itch in me to start writing again for quite a while – the amount of new incredible music out there constantly blows my mind, and I think it’s time we started platforming that again property. Don’t you?
